While there were a few other girls on the team with her, she said they were more involved on the marketing side of things and less on the building side. The cause is near to Simpson’s heart because as a high school student herself, she was a member of the Fairmont Robotics team. Simpson said the whole goal of the camp is to get more girls involved in STEM in a space they feel comfortable in. She noted that the following week Martin County KnowHow will have its STEM camp and students there will work with the same kit. The younger students will be learning new basic skills everyday while the older students will work with the VEX IQ kits on building a robot.
